On Tuesday our children from Reception – Year 4 were able to have a taste of what it would have been a Victorian child attending Kidlandlee School.
Terri and her wonderful team had set up a classroom with Victorian style desks with slates and chalks.
Through an hours lesson in a Victorian style, the children experienced lessons in Victorian school rules, handwriting, the history of the school, recital of the National Anthem and the Lord’s Prayer. Throughout the lesson the children were addressed by their surnames and were shown punishment implements such as the Torsk, the cane, wooden back straighteners and wooden finger fidgets. They were expected to rise silently when Mrs Buckley entered the room.
In the afternoon they enjoyed an art lesson taught by Mrs Rogerson using charcoal. They had the opportunity to play with Victorian style games such as pick up sticks, spinning tops, marbles and croquet. They had great fun with all of these however probably their favourite game was rolling down the lawn bank and playing What time is it Mr Wolf.
It was a fabulous experience for us all and we are so grateful to the Kidlandlee team for giving us the opportunity to do it.

Part of the day was a sponsored walk, walking the path that the children used to and we raised the amazing sum of £554.00
